About The Book:

What is it about this guy?

On paper, he’s one hundred percent wrong for me. His e-mails are equal parts annoying and funny.

Okay, more funny than annoying. More like refreshing. Different. Exciting.

But as I stand next to him now, he’s giving me head-to-toe tingles, and I find myself dwelling on his e-mails.

Meet smart, sexy career girl and New York snob, Charli Richards. She has everything except happiness until the day she meets Layton Griffin. It’s a random encounter on an airplane; it couldn’t mean anything, right?

Layton isn’t even remotely close to who Charli sees herself hooking up with . . . ever. Her mom and best friend agree he’s not for her, but he makes her feel something exciting, awakens her world.

But then Layton changes, going to great lengths for Charli to see him for who he really is.

Will those changes bring them closer together, or will she never be able to see him in the same way again?

♥ What's really behind my upcoming release? To See You... ♥

Have you ever fallen for someone who was so completely opposite of your ideal? Or your idea of the ideal? There has to be that one time when some guy got you thinking...

Right?

I'm so excited for my upcoming release, To See You, for this reason. It is about unexpected love. The kind of attraction that blooms when it is least expected.

Layton came to me on a trip to Disney. I was seated across from a dude. He wasn't my type nor the other girl seated next to him (I could tell). YET, she liked him. He was funny and confident in a fresh way——

Anyway, this story blossomed in my mind and IT is coming soon!

In fact, it is available for EXCLUSIVE preorder on iBooks

If you don't have anything nice to say...you know the saying.

This blog has sat dormant for a while, and there's no good explanation other than I don't have any words. SHOCKING! An author with no words.

I just don't.

And I shouldn't be using the word just.

I simply don't.

I've been saving all my words for my books, but every night as I go to sleep, I wish I had some extra words. I'd write about how hard self-publishing is and the many behind-the-scenes facets. I'd vomit up how important reviews are, and yet many are disappearing from Amazon. Daily. I would speak to the agonizing decision of participating in KU vs. NOT. Mostly, I'd complain about the loneliness that often accompanies writing.

It's a good thing I don't have any words left because they would come out all negative and twisted when I should simply be grateful.

And I am.

For you.

Readers. Who make my world a little less lonely and A LOT brighter!

XOXO,

R

Coming Soon with all my words.

Coming Soon with all my words.

DOLCE Cover Reveal ALMOST Here!

I know, I know...it's agony waiting to see the cover of an upcoming book.

Believe me, I have the patience of a two year old, and there is nothing more that I would like to do than show you the teaser. BUT the gals over at Southern Belles would shoot me (okay, not really...but they are going to do a beautiful job of revealing the cover).

ANYWAY, get ready because DOLCE is coming.

ADD it to your TBR here.

And because you are the best... a quick teaser.

XOXO,

Rachel

She didn’t say anything, just stared at me like she was trying to understand the opposing team’s plays. My cock was hard as shit, and my heart raced like I was at center court. I both loved and hated it. My whole life was ahead of me, and yeah, I wanted more. But was this it? This tiny outspoken woman from New Jersey who seemed to be so sure, yet unsure of herself?

Mark your calendars: Vérité is officially coming. #TBR

“To be honest,” he said in a low voice, “I saw you outside the dining hall that first night we met. Then when I realized we had study hour together, I was pumped. I thought you were a freshman, and you took my breath away. Not only were you stunning, but I saw the way you consoled your friend in the courtyard. Don’t panic or any shit like that; I’m not some crazy stalker. I just liked the way you looked and acted, that’s all. After chatting with you for a quick second, I decided I’d never met someone tough and sweet like you. Yeah, I was turned on, but also interested or something like that. Where I come from, people are either tough or nice, but not both.” “Seems to me that you’re both,” I interjected, my kind words coming out of left field. I bit my tongue, silencing myself, and continued to listen quietly, finally raising my gaze to meet his.

“I wanted to get to know you, but I was nervous and made a stupid joke about your name.” Taking a deep breath, he seemed to gather his courage. “Look, I’m just a dude from the streets with a bad Jersey accent and a pretty good jump shot. I get where you’re at . . . you don’t want any part of a brother like me. But that’s not me. I’m not just some guy who plays ball. I’m a decent person.”

Looking up into his pale blue eyes, so amazing with their openness and vulnerability, I felt my protective barrier shift. His warmth chipped away at my outer layer of ice, melting it away as I admitted, “I was just being overly sensitive about my name.”

“Either way,” he said, “I don’t know anything ’bout your past, and quite frankly, I don’t care now that you told me. We all got secrets and history, so you’re not scaring me off with your sordid shit. But I get you don’t want anything to do with the likes of me, all young and ghetto, but I’m twenty and probably seen more than you ever did.”

“It’s not that,” I started to say when...

First Time Excerpt and #Teaser - vérité - Standalone New Adult Novel

Woohoo, I've been writing nonstop, and I'm so excited to reveal the FIRST ever teaser and excerpt for vérité! This story took hold of my brain, and I just had to let it out. A steamy new adult book that will make you think and question where the truth can be found when it comes to love. Sometimes it's in the most unexpected places... Tingly

Blurb:

That's me - Tingly Simmons - athlete, foreign-language major, professor lover, obsessed idiot girl. Definitely not a frat rat or sorority slut. I've never ever played beer pong.

I ditched the vapid, soulless high-society life of Los Angeles for the promise of something more meaningful in rural Ohio. Accepting a track scholarship for college, I tried running my way to happiness, but instead I ended up sleeping with my French professor and falling head over heels for him.

When that relationship fell apart so did I.

Barely hanging on by a thread and using the most absurd coping skills, I was determined to hide behind my past indiscretions. That was, until I met Tiberius Jones.

Never in my wildest dreams did I think I'd learn the truth about love from a six-foot-five basketball player.

Excerpt:

My new friend sat next to me, very tall and yet broad. I couldn’t stop my eyes from drifting, taking little side glances at him while I pretended to read. The room was warm, and when he tugged off his hood and lifted his sweatshirt over his head, his T-shirt rode up, revealing the standard-issue six-pack for male athletes.

I shook my head, forcing myself to focus on the book in front of me, but my attention wandered again as he pulled out a textbook for freshman English. God, he’s a freshman. Was that what I was reduced to…ogling jail bait?

The guy was crazy handsome in an exotic way. His skin was a rich brown—neither dark nor light. In stark contrast, his eyes were the palest shade of blue I’d ever seen. They were two translucent aquamarine orbs that complemented a perfectly formed nose, well-defined eyebrows, and luscious lips. His hair was clipped tight, but would probably curl if allowed to grow. And then there were his arms. Every time he moved, his sleeves lifted past his bulging biceps and defined triceps.

There was zero fat on this dude’s body. He was a specimen. For a freshman. Not to mention, he was probably one of those beer-pong-loving jocks about to turn frat boy.

And I wasn’t getting involved with anyone—certainly not with a party boy with looks to kill, and trouble written all over his long, lean frame.

I hadn’t realized I’d spent the whole hour studying this kid until the proctor stood and dismissed us. When I tossed my book back into my bag and stood to leave, the object of my obsession unfolded himself from his tiny chair and said, “Hello, officially this time. I’m Tiberius. Guess I’ll see you tomorrow night?”

“I guess,” I said, and turned to head toward the door.

“You got a name?” he asked from behind me.

Surprised, I turned to face him and hugged my bag closer, like a shield. “I’m sorry, that was rude. Tingly,” I said, waving my fingers in the air as if they were asleep and all tingly. It was my go-to expression when telling someone my name, really more a defense than an explanation. I’d rather make light of something so toxic than reveal the disgust that rolled through my stomach every time I heard someone shout Ting…leee.

“Well, I dunno know what sport you play, Tingleee, but you could definitely win the weirdest-name-I-ever-heard contest,” he said with a chuckle. “This may be the first time I met anyone with a stranger name than me.”

Sadness bled through me. God, even this kid couldn’t just leave my name be; it did nothing more than remind me of my past. The one before Pierre, the real reason I was such a mess. Except there wasn’t enough therapy in the world to get me to relive that shit.

“I know,” I whispered as I turned again to leave.

“Tingly,” he called out. “Hey, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it. Don’t be mad; I thought it was funny. I don’t know. I’m so stupid,” he yelled after me.

As I walked away, I waved my hand in the air and dismissed his apology. “It’s fine,” I yelled back, then ran down the stairs and out of the building. ~ ©Rachel Blaufeld, 2015

Redemption Lane by Rachel Blaufeld

As I sit at my desk and the snow falls outside, I'm growing even more excited to share my new Crossroads series with you. Set between Ligonier, Pennsylvania and my hometown of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania––with a jaunt or two to Miami––Redemption Lane is certainly special. An angsty, emotional story between two broken souls both in need of repair, Lane and Bess find peace in the most unlikely of places.

With the snow-lined trees peeking through my window, I may as well be sitting in a setting or two of Redemption Lane. There I am reveling in my own little world when it hits me! I haven't even shared an extended teaser for this book...

SO, I decided to do something about that-->

Actually TWO things.

Please sign up for my mailing list and during the first week in February, you will receive a special preview of Redemption Lane delivered right to your inbox! There is a little sign up box right in the sidebar over there -->

This Author's 2015 Bucket List

HAPPY NEW YEAR!! from Rachel Blaufeld, author So, if I'm correct we're already two days into 2015. At least in my time zone.

And I'm yet to make a list of what the hell I want to accomplish this year––goals, trajectories, long-range plans. In other words, the ugly side of self-publishing.

So, without further ado, my 2015 Bucket List.

  1. Get dressed each and every day. Work as much as I can in my robe.

  2. Release THREE books and hopefully one novella.

  3. Go to bed on time, making sure to get my 8 hours every night.  Stay up late into the wee hours reading for fun, reviewing other indie's ARCS and editing my own.

  4. Give back. Send books to the troops and the women's shelter.

  5. Give up sugar and caffeine. Install a coffee maker in my office. Maybe a bat-phone to Dunkin Donuts too.

  6. Run a half-marathon or three to counteract the donuts and writing while sitting on my ass.

  7. Hide out in my office or coffee-shop. Hit the road and meet readers and other new authors.

  8. Lend support [and a shoulder to cry on] to other authors.

  9. Shove all my receipts into a drawer until April 14th. NOT! My accountant will shoot me.

  10. Answer every message, email, tweet, fb post, or as many as I can. Because without you––READERS––I am nothing.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for a great year in advance...and making last year the absolute best debut year EVER!

RB

AND a very special thanks to Becca Manuel for this fan-made trailer.

Have you seen it?

2014 Holiday Reading Recs

The elf is hiding and everyone is having twelve days of Christmas or this or that...and I'm editing. And maybe doing a little internet shopping. But with winter break coming, I thought I would share a few of my holiday reading recs.

Grab any or all of them and enjoy them by the fire or while ignoring your kids or when you're on vacation.

The Redemption by SL Scott

The Redemption by S L Scott

The second book in the Resistance Series. I think I loved the Redemption more. While the Resistance was frisky and fun, this installment is angsty and painful. But oh so, so good. Rochelle is a widow and a single mom. Dex, her late husband's closest friend has been in love with her from afar––since they met. Now, he has his chance, but there are so many misgivings and secrets that their romance is cloaked in twists and turns and more twists.  A holy hot mess of a rocker,  Dex has a sweet side and it makes this read totally worth it. It is an absolute one sitting read because there's simply no good point to put it down.

I picked this book up one afternoon and didn't put it down. Krystal, a rockstar fugitive, and Devon, an investigative reporter, should stay away from one another, but they don't. And sparks fly. Emotional ones. This is a fabulous contemporary love story with the beauty of old school romance woven through it. A perfect read for someone who is looking for a book without all the erotica. But have no fear...there is still steam and sparks.

with Everything I am by Kristen Ashley

With Everything I Am by Kristen Ashley.

Although this is an older read, the next book in the series comes out after Christmas and I LOVED this one. A werewolf and his betrothed carry secrets and as their love unfolds, these secrets become more and more entangled. A perfect paranormal romance, there is beauty and passion. And it is KA––so you know, it's amazing. And, at the time of writing this, it is on sale for 99 cents.

With a sneak peek at the end of Smoldered, I luckily had the chance to read an ARC of this book...and it is on fire. Sexy, sensual, and dreamy Ronan Connolly falls for Holliday Prescott, a contradiction of a woman. Strong yet broken, Holliday refuses the Irish actor's advances until she can't hold out any longer. An affair ensues with many ups and downs, and we are left hanging...I know, I know! It is tough. but it will be worth the wait. This book is a fabulous escape for any romance reader. Debuting on 12/9, it is avail for preorder now.

I heart Asher from Smoldered #giveaway

I know, its all I've been talking about, but seriously, I've been doing nothing but editing and re-reading Smoldered.. and, I'm pretty f$@*ing excited.

I've been in love with Asher since day one, but I never expected to adore Natalie as much as I have grown to ––

She is sometimes sweet, most of the time rough, definitely broken, and her life is blown to bits. And, one would think Asher rescues her, but honestly....

WELL, you will have to read the book to find out.

In the meantime, I am doing a little giveaway in anticipation of the Cover Reveal (9/9/14) and Smoldered's Release (10/16/14)....

Are you ready to Smolder? #Teaser 1, Smoldered

Over on FB, I've been promising & promising a tiny sneak peek of Smoldered - Book 2 in The Electric Tunnel Series. Releasing October, 2014 - Smoldered is Asher and Natalie's story. Its a bit grittier than Electrified, considering both the main characters' grew up on and around Vegas nightlife.

It was a gut-wrenching story to write, and I can't wait to share it with all of you...I will be somewhat sad to put it to print, though. Saying goodbye to Asher &Nat will be hard for me, but as they say: "All good things must come to an end." But, not really because there will be another book in the series, Mike's story.

So, here you go --> your first glimpse at Smoldered.

Natalie, Smoldered

…Right before me was my boss, still wearing his dress pants from the night, his shirt unbuttoned halfway down his chest, showing off a light smattering of blond chest hair and the very edge of his tattoo.

It was a dark navy blue electricity bolt over his chest for his one and only baby, the Electric Tunnel. But, it was a sight to see, and I did enjoy licking it from top to bottom.

In the privacy of his office.

His hair and goatee were equally mussed up from him running his hands through them. Sadly, a behavior I knew all too well, and there was nothing I wanted to do more than dive in and make it even messier.

And, he was wearing motorcycle boots with his suit pants. He was a hot mess of a man––nothing else remotely like him. Even with a layer of expensive, designer clothing on top, he was pure bad boy underneath. He’d never ditch his boots. They were as ingrained in him as his past, which is why I should have been high-tailing it right out of the place. Instead, I stood planted like a palm tree blowing in the wind, waiting for the storm to arrive, stuck in the ground as if there was nothing I could do to stop the blustery weather heading my way, threatening to topple me over.

The guy was a god, and I was nothing more than a stripper, who was smitten with him. Running my hands through my own long hair, I’d left it down with big waves running through it. I had set it in hot rollers on my break for a bachelor party I ran earlier. Yet, now it didn’t seem like enough for Asher. He should get more than the after-effects of my evening at work.

He deserved fresh curls and perfume not mixed with another man’s cologne.

I wanted to be more in his eyes. Hadn’t I always?

In my dreams, I was the prettiest, sexiest, and most darling of his girls. The one he would keep, but I knew that to be a fantasy, which is why I kept firm boundaries when it came to him. Most of the time, at least. This evening, not one of these occasions.

He approached with his usual control and command, wrapped his arm around my neck and pulled me tight against him. Running his nose along my collar, he breathed in my scent, and whispered, “Fuck, Nat, you smell real good. Look so damn beautiful. I want you. Never can get enough.”

Smoldered coming October, 2014

I have been hiding in my cave, otherwise known as my backyard or the local coffee shop––writing book 2 of The Electric Tunnel Series. Why?

Smoldered is coming, October, 2014

Asher Peterson is a self-made man, owner of the Electric Tunnel, Sin City’s hottest adult entertainment spot. Brazen and formidable in designer T-shirts and motorcycle boots, he seems unflappable whether he’s making his rounds through the decadent decor of the Tunnel, or whipping through the desert heat on his bike. But inside he is a shattered man, desperate to understand what unconditional love from a woman feels like.

Hiding the effects of his emotionally stunted youth behind a gritty persona, and keeping his fractured soul buried deep while seeking out his baser instincts, Asher is convinced he is man enough to leave the past in the past. The only clue to his broken soul is his deep-seated need to provide safety and a good life for emotionally damaged women within the glamorous walls of his strip club.

Fooling himself that he deserves little in life, Asher keeps his big heart tightly guarded with everyone but Sienna Flower, his friend, business partner, and headliner. Until, that is, the night he runs into his childhood friend, Natalie Parker. While trolling a rival strip club, perusing their offerings for his own personal pleasure, he collides with his past. Coming face-to-face with a woman he only knew as a girl, he’s shaken when he finds the dark-haired beauty in a precarious position. Now all grown up, she’s a hardened soul who reminds him of where he came from, and stirs within him the need to protect yet another woman.

Known as Nat to most everyone, Natalie is a single mom to Quinn. But when she’s under the bright spotlights in a thong, she’s known as Natasha or Nataleigh Dallas. A girl who once had everything going for her, she’s now a jaded stripper with only room for her son in her life, and has erected impenetrable barriers around her heart. The strength of those walls is challenged the night a man she has known since childhood steamrolls his way back into her life, flashing those smoky-gray eyes that have always melted her. A man she has loved from afar since she was a young girl, one who set fire to her walls, burning deeper, setting everything ablaze––smoldering her.

Smoldered by Rachel Blaufeld, Teaser

Asher and Natalie, two people who are equally tormented by their own demons, set out to rescue each other as part-time lovers in a torrid, desperate workplace affair. Thinking they can remain friends while keeping their hearts at a safe distance, they find themselves at odds when their situation morphs into a messy, tangled mess.

Ripping free of each other proves impossible as they learn that the very web that connects them goes much deeper than they ever expected.

Official Cover Reveal coming on 9.9.14 (same day SOA & Charlie return to TV, gulp).

He's coming. Carson

It was his own damn fault he was so desperate for a female’s attention or touch. He was the one tied in knots over a stripper—a beautiful woman with supple curves, all the right moves, and bluer-than-blue eyes so deep they revealed she was actually much more than who she appeared to be onstage.

A woman who was completely inaccessible to him and untouchable to everyone. Yet he was so hung up on her, he was about to head up to his hotel room by his lonesome without any intention of trying to find another woman or even take care of himself.

Carson shook his head, annoyed at himself and confused by his current disinterest in pursuing anything female. He knew it bore some type of significance. A meaning, perhaps, that he shouldn’t ignore.
